Brand strategy comes before design
A logo is an expression of a brand, not the brand itself. Strategy defines who you serve, what you stand for, and why you are different.
Know your audience
Describe your best customers: their problems, goals, and the words they use. Build messages around their needs, not your features.
Define your positioning
Complete this sentence: 'For [audience] who need [need], we are the [category] that [key difference].' If you cannot, competitors will define you.
Set purpose, values, and voice
Purpose explains why you exist; values guide decisions; voice sets how you sound. Together they keep your brand consistent as you grow.
Express it consistently
Only now design the identity and write the messaging, then apply it everywhere: website, social, sales materials, and customer service.
